RAINIER -- A 44-year-old Columbia County man died following a single-vehicle ATV crash near Rainier Friday night.

Just before 11 p.m. Friday Night, Columbia County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an ATV that had gone off the road on Orr Road in the Rainier area. Deputies arrived and located a single crash victim.

Deputies began CPR on the victim, but Brian Matthew Roth of St. Helens was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said four other people were ccompanying Roth on separate recreational vehicles when the crash occurred. No cellular service was available in the area and one of the riders went for help and summoned emergency services.

Columbia County deputies were continuing the investigation into the crash. Alcohol and speed were both believed to be contributing factors.
