High-speed police chase ends in Fairview

FAIRVIEW, Ore. -- A routine traffic stop escalated into a manhunt that started in Clackamas County and ended in Fairview late Thursday night, police said.
It all started when a Clackmas County Sheriff's deputy tried to pull the suspect over in his station wagon Thursday night at 11:23 p.m along SE Sunnyside Road in Happy Valley.
The driver continued to speed away in a 1980 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon and that led to a high-speed chase, police said.
Shortly after, police said the suspect got out of his car and ran away near 22710 block NE Halsey Street in Fairview.
Deputies believe the man had a weapon and S.W.A.T. members were called in. People living nearby had to be evacuated. A stretch of NE Halsey Street was also shut down during the search.
Authorities continued their search for several hours and cancelled it early Friday morning when they were not able to catch the suspect.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was investigating, but have not released the name of the suspect. However, they said they do believe they know who he is.
Meantime, police towed the abandoned station wagon to a containment area for evidence.
