Another foot of snow for Oregon Cascades

11:45 PM PDT on Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Mother Nature doesn’t seem to realize it’s almost May; the National Weather Service issued yet another snow advisory for the Oregon Cascades with up to 12 inches of snow possible.

“We're winding down April and it looks and feels more like March. Another round of very cool and damp weather is in the forecast,” said KGW Meteorologist Dave Salesky. “In the mountains snow is in the forecast - again!”

The snow advisory will remain in effect for the Cascades until Wednesday afternoon, with six to 10 inches of snow is possible above 2500 feet.

“Looking ahead I see only modest improvement this weekend. Temperatures will reach the lower 60s with partly cloudy skies,” Salesky added.

The NWS advisory warned that a series of late-season cold weather disturbances will bring periods of snow to the Cascades, with the heaviest amounts in higher elevations and ski resorts.

“The snow level was falling below the elevations of the main passes through the Cascades early this [Tuesday] morning and will continue to lower to between 2000 and 3000 feet the remainder of today, then lower to around 2000 feet tonight and Wednesday. Roads across the Cascades will likely be snow covered at times today and Wednesday,” the advisory warned.
