Three arrested in Powell Blvd. shooting
04:04 PM PDT on Wednesday, April 30, 2008
A robbery erupted into gunfire Tuesday afternoon at a Southeast Portland apartment and shut down Southeast Powell Boulevard in the area, police said.
A man told officers he went to meet someone at Interstate Apartments and was robbed at gunpoint by two men when he got to the apartment in the 17200 block of Powell at about 1 p.m.
Antawan Simpkins, 25, was charged with robbery and ex-con in possession of a firearm, police said. Alicia Marie Roach, 23, was charged with robbery and a 16-year-old was charged with robbery and menacing.
Detectives said the 39-year-old victim met Roach over the internet and had arranged a sex-for-money encounter. The victim arrived at Roach's residence, located at 17223 Southeast Powell Blvd., when Simpkins and the 16-year-old entered the apartment armed with weapons.
Simpkins was armed with a handgun and the teen was armed with a baseball bat, according to police. After threatening the victim, the suspects stole the victim's money and one of the suspects fired a shot, police said.
No one was injured. The victim fled the scene and called 9-1-1. The suspects were located in a nearby apartment. The gun was also recovered.
