Lewis County sheriff's divers say they are done searching for passenger
in a car that crashed into the Skookumchuck River early Tuesday in
Centralia.
Crews pulled the car out of the water and found no signs of a struggle.
There were no reports of missing people, either. So authorities decided
to end the search.
A parking lot sweeper initially heard the accident at about 1 a.m. and
alerted police.
A fire department rescue team found evidence that a car had gone into
the water, but no sign anyone came out.
Fire Captain Mike Davidson says it's possible the vehicle floated
downstream in the swift current. The river is 6’12” deep in the area.
