Injured woman's baby delivered after Hwy. 224 collision

A pregnant woman was hurt when her SUV collided with a semi-truck on Highway 224 early Friday morning, police said, and then doctors delivered her baby a short time later at a Portland hospital.

Raw aerial crash video

The woman, 22-year-old Courtney Corbett of Gladstone, was flown in a LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with undisclosed injuries. She was listed in "very serious" condition after the birth, according to Trooper Jason Lindland.

The driver of the semi-truck, Paul Eastridge, 55, of Grants Pass, was trying to make a left turn onto eastbound Highway 224 from Pheasant Court when the woman’s SUV slammed into him just before 4 a.m.

The impact of the crash caused the SUV to get stuck under the semi-truck and Corbett was trapped.

“The young woman, who is reportedly in the third trimester of pregnancy, was unconscious and entrapped in the vehicle, taking emergency responders approximately 45-minutes to extricate her,” said Trooper Lindland.

Eastridge was not hurt in the crash, Lindland said.

Police records showed that Corbett's license was suspended for driving violations twice in 2006. Police said they think she may have run a red light before this crash.

Highway 224 was closed in both directions for nearly three hours due to the crash. Lindland said that about 50-gallons of diesel fuel from the semi-truck also spilled onto the highway and had to be cleaned up.
