Suspension lifted for PSU players accused of spring break brawl

06:56 PM PDT on Friday, April 18, 2008

Two Portland State University basketball players were cleared of any wrongdoing by school officials after being jailed in Mexico over spring break.

Michigan student Kyle Meagher said he has no doubt Scott Morrison, a center on the PSU basketball team, is the person who punched him and shattered his jaw, with his teammate, Jeremiah Dominguez nearby in a Cabo club.

But Morrison and Dominguez say they were set up.

On Friday, PSU officials said they could find no evidence the players were involved.

“After reviewing the incident, there appears to be no evidence against them of involvement, so the athletic department sees no reason to continue the suspensions,” a statement released Friday said.

Meagher, 23, is a community college student in Lansing, Mich. and was visiting Mexico as part of an internship.

The pair was initially thrown into jail in Mexico but they were set free days later.

After Morrison and Dominguez were set free and returning to their family homes in Salem and Vancouver, B.C., Portland State University officials said the two would be suspended indefinitely during the investigation.

Neither police nor Meagher filed any charges in the case.

Dominguez, the Big Sky's player of the year, averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 assists per game. Morrison, the league's defensive player of the year, averaged 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.
