Boy who threw knife to face charges
04:27 PM PDT on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Prosecutors say they will charge a boy who allegedly threw a butter knife that lodged in the head of another boy over the weekend.
Tyler Hemmert and a friend were playing in the Fruit Valley Park in Vancouver, Washington on Sunday, digging in the dirt with butter knives, when another boy allegedly threw a knife at them.
Hemmert’s friend ducked and the knife lodged in Hemmert's head, just under his scalp, but didn't puncture his skull
Doctors successfully removed the butter knife, and praised the boy for leaving the knife in place until it could be safely removed.
Tyler Hemmert is apparently doing fine; he told Today Show hosts Wednesday that his head doesn't even hurt anymore. Amazingly, he only needed five stitches.
Prosecutors said they will charge the boy who allegedly threw the knife with second degree assault.
