TILLER, Ore. – A 52-year-old man was found dead in the woods in Southern Oregon, two days after his car got stuck in snow and he set out on foot to seek help.

Missing man Kenneth Walton

Debra Smith called 911 Tuesday morning to report Kenneth Walton as a missing person. Smith told deputies that she and Walton had gone for a drive on Sunday, April 13th. They intended to drive from Canyonville to Myrtle Creek via Johnnie Creek Road.

Smith said they became stuck in the snow in the 4000 block of Johnnie Creek Road. On Sunday, Walton set out, intending to walk back to South Umpqua Highway.

Tuesday morning, Smith was able to free the vehicle and drive to a nearby residence for help.

Walton was found dead later on Tuesday about 50 yards off Johnnie Springs Road. Authorities said the body was located about one to two miles from where the car became stuck in snow.

Walton was apparently carrying Smith's pre-paid cell phone but it was out of minutes and can only call 911, deputies said. The death was not considered suspicious but authorities were investigating.

The case shared some similarities with that of the Kim family, who became stuck in snowy conditions in Southern Oregon on Thanksgiving weekend 2006. James Kim's wife and children, who stayed wih the family's car, were rescued but James Kim was later found dead after hiking miles in a vain effort to get help for his family.
