Judge candidate criticized for trying to get out of jury duty
07:23 AM PDT on Monday, April 10, 2006
SALEM, Ore. -- A candidate to become the municipal judge in Salem learned that judges don't like it when people try to get out of jury duty. kgw.com graphic Kasia Quillinan is a Salem attorney and former city councilwoman. She acknowledged entering a judge's chambers to seek a dismissal from a Marion County jury summons last month. Quillinan approached Judge Terry Leggert to see if she could be excused from jury duty. Leggert rejected the request. The Marion County Circuit Court filed a complaint against Quillinan with the county's Court Security Committee. Quillinan used her court access key card to approach the judge. Quillinan's key-card access has been suspended. She says she asked to be excused because she felt her status as an attorney would have kept her off the jury.
