Car goes off cliff along Historic Columbia River Hwy.

A car went over a steep embankment along the Historic Columbia River Scenic Highway and one person was rushed to an area hospital Thursday morning.
When emergency personnel arrived, they treated and transported one person who was along the roadway. They were unsure whether that person had climbed up the embankment after the crash or had been ejected before the car went over the edge.
Rescuers used climbing gear to rappel down to the car to try and figure out if there were more victims. But by 11 a.m., they said they did not believe any additional cars or victims were involved in this particular crash.

An aerial view from Sky-8 showed a steep, sheer cliff with one car upside down in the thick tangle of branches and trees below.
There were also two other cars nearby, covered in moss as if they had been there for quite some time. Authorities said they had no idea how the cars got there but they could have been from similar accidents in the past or possibly dumped there. Investigators said they'd had problems in the past with people dumping stolen cars over the edge of the highway.
