PORTLAND, Ore. -- Three Native Americans were beaten as they waited for a MAX train last Thursday night, according to Portland police.
It happened last Thursday night at 7:15 at the Goose Hollow MAX Station in Southwest Portland.
No weapons were used, just the suspects’ fists. The three victims include a 62-year-old man, a 27-year-old man, and a 47-year-old woman. Two of them were taken to an area hospital, one had a broken jaw.
Mary Wheat of the Portland Police department says the three were targeted because of their ethnicity.
“We jump into action whenever we have a bias or a hate crime, “ Wheat said. “The suspects said certain (Native American) racial slurs”
Police are now reviewing video surveillance and talking to victims to try to find out who would do this.
Detectives released limited information, as to who the suspects may be.
They say there were five people, including three men and two women. They urge any witnesses to come forward.
If you know anything about this case, you’re encouraged to call Portland police.
