SALEM –- A 22-year-old man arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s toddler appeared in court Tuesday.
Russell Ros was charged with murder, sexual abuse and criminal mistreatment. He is being held without bail.
Outside court, his brother told KGW that Russel Ros has an anger problem. Nevertheless, Dino Ros said he's shocked by what happened.
"I'm shocked, upset and sad all at the same time ... I would never expect anything like this ... from my own family," he said.
The victim, 2-year-old Natalia Lee, was taken to Salem Hospital Saturday night and died early Sunday morning, said Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada.
Lee died of blunt force trauma.
Russell Ros was arrested on charges of murder, sexual abuse and criminal mistreatment, Okada said.Ros had been babysitting the toddler while her mother was out of town.
He was also accused of assaulting the girl’s older brother, according to police. That child was placed into protective custody during the investigation, which continues.
