Winter 'not done' with Portland just yet

Portland's wintry mix of snow and rain continued into Thursday but the storm's strength did appear to be slowly flickering out.

"We’re not done with it yet," said KGW meteorologist Matt Zaffino, " but I don’t think it will be enough to make trouble on the roads." He predicted less than an inch of snow in the city overnight and expected snow showers Thursday morning to turn into rain.

A number of schools in the Portland and Vancouver Metro areas remained on delay due to snow and a limited few were actually closed.

A heavy snow warning remained in effect for the coast range of Northwest Oregon and the Central coast range of Western Oregon through 4 a.m. Thursday.

On Wednesday, Portland School District officials closed four schools and delayed all others due to snow falling in the west hills of the Metro area.

Temperatures stayed cool throughout the day Wednesday, bringing scattered snow showers to higher elevations in Portland throughout the day. A snow advisory remains in effect for some areas through 4 a.m. Thursday.

The weather pattern has dumped as much as three feet of snow in the Cascades over the past week.

Forecasters say Oregonians can expect heavy mountain snow and persistent valley rain to linger for the next seven to 10 days.
