Bicyclist struck by car in in Wash. County, seriously injured

CORNELIUS, Ore. -- Washington County deputies say a woman bicycling near Cornelius was struck by a car and is seriously hurt.
Diane Vanwinkle was transported by Life-Flight to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital Thursday night at about 9 p.m. A hospital official said Friday morning that Vanwinkle remained in serious condition.
Authorities detained 63-year-old James Mallar of Banks for suspicion of DUII.
Vanwinkle, who is 46, is from Cornelius. She was riding her bicycle on the shoulder of the road. Authorities say she had on reflective clothing and was using the proper lighting required.
Vanwinkle was thrown onto the car and struck the windshield. She suffered multiple injuries. Mallar was uninjured.
