Police search for whoever abandoned dog
11:47 PM PST on Saturday, February 17, 2007
HILLSBORO, Ore.- Veterinarians believe a dog found locked in a crate next to a dumpster would not have survived another day had she not been discovered.

Roxie the Schnauzer was found abandoned and locked in a crate.
Roxie the Schnauzer was found in very bad condition Friday near a Beaverton MAX stop. Several workers said they were brought to tears when they saw her. She weighed just seven and a half pounds.
Police were looking for whoever locked her in the crate and abandoned her. In Washington County, it is a crime to abandon a dog.
“She probably had about 24 more hours. Her gums were white, she was dehydrated,” said Paula Lynch of the Bonnie L. Hayes Small Animal Shelter. “She could not have survived too much longer in that condition. Her body was feeding off of itself at this point.”
Roxie should be okay, workers at the shelter said. She was eating plenty of food and looked to be getting her strength back.
Workers hoped to start taking applications to adopt Roxie within a week.
