Police are investigating a man’s body found over an embankment in Southwest Portland.
Transients first reported the body near SW Barbur Boulevard and SW Capitol Highway, police said.
Investigators searching the area found the dead man Thursday night. They described him as a 56-year-old man and said they knew his identity, but it would not be released until relatives were first notified.
Sgt. Brian Schmautz with the Portland Police Bureau said the man died of "homicidal violence" and investigators were sweeping the area for more clues as to who killed him. He said the westbound lane of SW Capitol Highway would remain closed during the investigation.
A nearby transient camp was also searched.
