A 20-mile stretch of Highway 20 was closed early Tuesday morning near Santiam Pass due to extreme weather conditions, ODOT announced. The highway was closed at snow gates from Milepost 51 to 71 around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials estimated the road would be reopened sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, in Washington state, continued heavy snow caused the Washington Transportation Department to stop traffic on I-90 at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday for avalanche control work. The interstate was expected to be closed for an hour or longer.

More than 30 feet of snow have fallen this winter at Snoqualmie Pass and crews have removed the equivalent of 200,000 dump truck loads of snow.
