Brian Schmautz with the Portland Police Bureau said officers were called out to the scene of a serious injury wreck between a car and a bike just before midnight Friday.
Investigators said it appeared as if 24-year-old Nicholas Bucher was riding his bike on SE Stark. At the intersection of SE 26th and Stark, according to investigators, Bucher rode out into the path of a car being driven by 32-year-old Cyrus Stanger.
The 24-year-old died on the way to Oregon Health and Science University.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the fatal crash. Schmautz said Stanger stayed on scene, submitted to a toxicology test, and was cooperating with investigators. The results of the toxicology test would take about a month.
Stanger was cited for one count of Assault in the fourth degree.
