Three southern Oregon highways closed by snow
05:53 PM PST on Saturday, February 2, 2008
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced closures of three highways in southern Oregon because of snow.
The department says the closure are in effect until tomorrow and may go beyond that.
--Oregon 138E is closed at Diamond Lake Resort east to U.S. 97.
--Oregon 62 is closed at Prospect east to the Crater Lake National Park entrance.
--Oregon 230, which connects Oregon 138E and Oregon 62, is completely closed.
ODOT district manager John Vial says crews are running out of places to put the snow, with highways reduced to a single lane in many places and some roadside snow berms 12 feet high.
He said snow blowers cannot keep up.
Interstate-5 over the Siskiyous was open Saturday afternoon but drivers were urged to check current conditions by dialing 5-1-1 or going online at www.Tripcheck.com.
