Another storm system is moving into Oregon and Southwest Washington and this time, it's expected to bring more rain than snow, at least in the lower elevations.

"Showers will decrease late Friday but the break from the showers will be brief and another storm will arrive Friday night," said KGW Meteorologist Dave Salesky. "With rain in Portland and the Willamette Valley, more snow is coming to the Cascades."

He said about two-and-a-half feet of new snow was expected to fall on Mt. Hood in just the next 36 hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a storm warning for the Northern Oregon Cascades and the South Washington Cascades. Cities affected include Government Camp, Detroit, Santiam Pass, Oakridge, Willamette Pass and Mount St. Helens.

NWS predicted another 12 to 18 inches of snow would fall Saturday. The winter storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Winds were expected to rech speeds of 20 to 30 miles an hour, which may produce areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Salesky said there was a chance for a rain snow mix Saturday night for lower elevations but then it will transform back into rain showers on Sunday.
