John Day woman dies in fatal rollover crash

A John Day-area woman died Saturday after her vehicle rolled over on Highway 26, two miles west of Prairie City.

Around 11:20 a.m. Oregon State Police deputies responded to reports of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 26 near milepost 170.
Deputies found 66-year-old Fredina Sue McKrola of John Day a short distance from her Chevrolet Suburban. It appeared she had been ejected from the SUV.
Deputies and medical personnel attempted to revive her but McKrola was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe that McKrola was heading westbound on Highway 26 before losing control of the Suburban.
Deputies said she was not using safety restraints.
Spots of ice were reported in the area at the time.
