Statement from family of 9-year-old Vancouver sledding accident victim

04:37 PM PST on Thursday, January 18, 2007

Compiled by kgw.com Staff

The family of a 9-year-old Vancouver girl fatally injured in a sledding accident blamed on her father released the following statement through their lawyer Thursday:

The Gecho family is going through a very difficult and sad time. They would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to all those who have shown their love and support for Madison and the family. They ask for your continued support and prayers during this difficult time, and hope that all understand that this is a very personal matter.

Madison's mother, Jill Gecho, would like all to know that Madison was a beautiful, loving daughter who appreciated all life has to offer and that her love for her father was without limits and unbreakable. Madison's mother also asks that Madison be remembered for the way she loved life, and not for her tragic death. She and the rest of the Gecho family have asked that she, Madison's siblings, and Madison's father, Peter Gecho, be allowed to grieve without intrusion and without more pain than the situation has already caused.

The Gecho family requests that their right to privacy be respected during this very emotionally trying time.

Very truly yours,

Thomas C. Phelan
