Dozens hurt Tuesday in sledding accidents

Local hospitals saw dozens of injuries from people falling down and sledders crashing into cars during Tuesday’s snowstorm.

Around 4 p.m. near Taylor's Ferry and SW 35th, a sledder hit a parked car and was taken to the hospital. That person's age and condition were unknown.

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue said a 14-year-old boy was seriously hurt after hitting his head on a tree while sledding at the LDS church on 162 and Sexton in Beaverton. His injuries were not life threatening.

In Vancouver, a 14-year-old was hurt in a collision with a minivan while sledding near Ellsworth and Evergreen. Crews said that boy was dragged by the minivan. Paramedics took the teen to the hospital with what they said were significant internal injuries. The child was listed in serious condition Wednesday.

Officials said there were 35 sledding related injuries at local hospitals as of Tuesday night. At last report, only one of the sledding accidents turned out to be deadly.

Officials reminded sledders to wear a helmet and make sure to sled on off-road areas and keep an eye out for ATVs or other vehicles.
