Richard Jason Kinney, age 57, from Portland and his passenger Anne Karen Beckworth, age 55, from Lake Oswego died in the collision.

An off-duty medic was at the crash scene and reported the fatalities.

According to the Oregon State Police, an investigation concluded that a Toyota 4-Runner driven by Levi Wilson, 27, slid out of control on black ice in a curve. A Subaru Legacy made an evasive maneuver to avoid the collision but was struck on the passenger side.

Following their initial investigation, the Oregon State Police issued this statement:

"Levi Wilson was operating his 4-Runner westbound and the Subaru was eastbound. The crash occurred on the far right portion of the westbound lane where the 4-Runner collided into the passenger door of the Subaru."

Turner, who was alone in his vehicle, was transported to Santiam Memorial Hospital in Stayton with minor injuries.

Police say alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, and no charges were filed.

Police say the section of road where the crash occurred was shaded and covered by black ice.
