PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 24-year-old Woodburn man attempted to elude police Friday by faking a bomb threat against a local bank, less than a month after a bank bomb took the lives of two officers in Woodburn and critically injured the city’s police chief, according to U.S. attorneys.

Background: Father & son accused of fatal bank bombing

The U.S. Department of Justice reports that Christopher Wayne Walker was suspected in a burglary at the Dollar Tree Store in Woodburn, which was reported to police Friday.

Police pulled over a vehicle registered to Walker at about 8:45 a.m. During the traffic stop, a man police identified as Walker fled the scene.

As officers attempted to locate the suspect, 911 dispatchers received a call claiming there was a bomb at the Woodburn Wells Fargo Bank branch.

While the bomb threat was under investigation police located Walker in a back yard on West Hayes Street in Woodburn.

Walker admitted to making the bomb threat in order to thwart police who were pursuing him.

Woodburn Police later reported that Walker's friend and Dollar Tree Assistant Manager Trualy Dixon was also arrested for her role in the burglary.

Officers said the burglary had been staged to look like the intruder had forced his way in instead of using the key provided by Dixon.

Walker now finds himself charged with one federal count of making a threat against a bank. He was arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Dixon and Walker were both charged in Marion County with Burglary 2, Theft 1, possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief.

Walker will make his first appearance in federal court on Monday in Portland and faces up to 10 years in prison for the bomb threat.
