Three rescued by boat from fast-rising waters
06:48 PM PST on Wednesday, January 7, 2009
Three people, including an 88-year-old woman, were rescued by boat from their flooded homes near Cougar, Washington Wednesday after they were trapped by fast-rising floodwaters.
The rescue happened near Highway 503, about five miles south of Cougar, Washington.
Steve Church told KGW a neighbor called to alert him that the creek near their home was on the rise. He decided to go move his car to higher ground and by the time he made it back to his house, he said the water had risen from about an inch high to waist high.
Steve and Leanne Church, and 88-year-old neighbor Lavone Wheatley, were rescued from their flooded homes by a Zodiac boat through the combined efforts of Cowlitz County, Vancouver, and Clark County fire crews.
