Highway 26 between Sandy and Brightwood was reopened Sunday after being closed for several days due to a large mudslide. One lane was opened early Sunday, and the remaining lanes were reopened Sunday afternoon.

Two vehicles were stuck in the debris on Highway 26 at one point Friday morning but no one was injured. Witnesses said the slide included mud and trees and the debris, 2-feet deep, was spread across about 200 yards.

The Oregon Department of Transportation established a detour for several days from Ten Eyck Road on the east end of Sandy, to Marmot Road and Sleepy Hollow Road in the Brightwood area.

In nearby Sandy, buildings at an industrial park were damaged by floodwaters. The city closed a water main, leaving some without water service. Damage to an optic fiber line caused phone and cell phone outages. The city's 911 service was out for a time, but put back online on a limited basis.

Flood waters knocked out a bridge on SE 422nd Ave. in Sandy, stranding five families, a resident told KGW.

Meanwhile, one Sandy resident told KGW that a bridge on SE 422nd Avenue washed away, stranding five families.

"It's pretty much a disaster here. There are five families out here; we are completely stranded. The telephone lines are out and the whole bridge and part of the street washed away," said Julie Flavin, a resident on SE 422nd Avenue.
