La Grande police arrest escaped inmate
06:34 PM PDT on Saturday, June 28, 2008
LA GRANDE, Ore. -- A man who failed to return to prison after a temporary leave is back behind bars.
La Grande Police Sgt. Scott Franks said 39-year-old Corrigan Stufflebeem was arrested in the northeast Oregon city after a short foot chase Friday night.
Earlier Friday, Franks eluded a manhunt in Bend and allegedly stole a car in Redmond. The manhunt started after Franks allegedly refused to let a female acquaintance out of his car.
After the arrest, Franks said Stufflebeem gave officers a false name that turned out to be the same name as the man who had his car stolen in Redmond.
Franks said the stolen car was located in La Grande and tied to Stufflebeem.
Stufflebeem was lodged in the Union County jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and a no-bail warrant for escape. He also faces charges in Redmond and Bend.
