OAKLAND, Ore. — A 15-year-old boy died after crashing his dirt bike on private property, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Daniel Ray Ocumpaugh, a sophomore at Oakland High School, was pronounced dead Friday at Mercy Medical Center.
The sheriff's office provided few details of the crash and the boy's family members said they are not exactly sure what happened Friday afternoon.
"He was doing what he loved, riding bikes, riding motorcycles," said Lauretta Sciple, Ocumpaugh's aunt. "He was riding and one moment it was over."
Family said Ocumpaugh was wearing a helmet.
Ocumpaugh played for the Oakland High School junior varsity football team his freshman year, but did not join this season. Friday night's varsity football game between Oakland and Glendale was postponed until Saturday evening.
"He had just a huge personality," Oakland football coach Rob Davis said. "Daniel was one of those kids who even when he did things wrong, he was hard not to love. He was just full of life."
