ALOHA, Ore. – Two teenage brothers attacked a sheriff’s sergeant Thursday after robbing an Aloha grocery store and threatening the clerk with scissors, authorities said.

The brothers entered La Morenita grocery store, located at 5990 S.W. 185th Avenue, and demanded money from the clerk, according to investigators. One of the brothers was holding a pair of scissors and allegedly threatened the clerk.

When the clerk was unable to retrieve the money from the till, the brothers, later identified as 17-year-old Miguel Obispo and 16-year-old Edgardo Obispo, became very angry.

“One of them threw the victim to the floor while the other tried to open the cash register by smashing it into a glass counter,” said Washington County Sgt. David Marzilli.

The clerk suffered non life-threatening injuries and called 911.

As deputies flooded the area, a Washington Co. sheriff's sergeant spotted two teenagers who matched the suspects’ description walking down a nearby street.

He approached and told them to sit on the ground, but when he tried to search one of them, the boy reached into his sock, prompting the sergeant to grab him.

“While the sergeant was getting control of the first suspect, Edgardo, the second suspect, Miguel, kicked him in the face and started to punch him. At this point, both suspects were punching him. The sergeant was able to back away from the assailants and draw his pistol,” Marzilli said.

At that time, both ran away, with the sergeant chasing them and calling for help on his radio. Several patrol cars responded and two deputies caught Miguel while the sergeant captured Edgardo.

Investigators later confirmed that the brothers were the ones who robbed the grocery store. They live in the area and attend Aloha High School.

The boys face charges of assault, menacing, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and robbery.

Because the brothers are accused of Measure 11 crimes, they will be sent to adult court. They were lodged in Washington County Jail.
