Dog owner arrested in case of neglected pit bull
04:56 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 16, 2007
A Hillsboro woman was charged with animal neglect after police said she lied about an injured puppy she brought into a local shelter.
Washington County Humane Society
Hillsboro Police said 30-year-old Shannon Lee Shelton brought the emaciated six-month-old pit bull into a local shelter last week. The dog also had ammonia burns on its paws. Shelton told officials there that she found the dog in that condition at Shute Park.
But Washington County Humane Society officials were suspicious about the claim and started investigating with police.
Officers arrested Shelton Tuesday for animal neglect. Detectives said she confessed that she kept the hyperactive dog in a crate and ignored it.

Police said the dog was recovering and doing well at a local shelter.
