BEAVERTON -- A burglary suspect climbed into a Beaverton apartment through a bedroom window, fondled a sleeping father and then attacked him, police said Monday.

About 6 a.m. Saturday, Beaverton Police officers responded to Fountain Park Apartments, near the intersection of Farmington Road and Murray Boulevard, after an 11-year-old girl called to report an intruder fighting with her father.

When officers arrived, Pedro Pesantez was holding down the suspect.

“Coming from a deep sleep, he did pretty good,” said Beaverton Police Sgt. Paul Wandell.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Pravind Pal Kumar, had climbed through an unlocked ground floor window into a dark bedroom where the family was sleeping, Wandell said.

The father woke when the suspect climbed into his bed and started sexually assaulting him, according to police.

“The father turned on the bedroom light and Kumar attempted to hide his face with his jacket before he lunged at the father,” Wandell said.

As the father struggled with Kumar, he told his 11-year-old daughter to call 911. The father's other two children, ages 3 and 6, were also in the bedroom.

"He was pinning him down and... he told me to wake up really fast and call 911," said 11-year-old Diana Mejia.

"The guy is on the bottom and I'm on the top... I'm punching the guy, I'm punching," Pesantez said.

Kumar was uncooperative when police arrived, and initially refused to tell them his name or address.

He was lodged at the Washington County Jail on burglary and sex abuse charges. Kumar has past arrests for trespassing. He appeared in court Monday, visibly bruised.
