Two families displaced from Beaverton duplex fire
08:49 AM PDT on Tuesday, October 14, 2008
BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Two families were displaced after a fire ripped through a two-story duplex in Beaverton.
Fire crews were called out to the home just after 10:30 p.m. near Barlow Road and Murray Road.
When firefighters arrived, they were faced with heavy fire on the back side of one duplex unit.
Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue officials told KGW they had to attack the blaze aggressively to keep it from spreading to a second unit.
The family, two adults and three children, inside the burning unit was able to escape without any injuries. A family next door to the fire was also displaced when the power to the building was disconnected.
"My biggest concern was getting the kids and animals out of the house. I couldn't even see the fire until I was across the street," said Amanda Robinson, a displaced neighbor.
The Red Cross was helping both families.
No word on cause or a dollar amount on the damage.
