The owner of a northwest Portland fitness club was arrested last week and charged with stealing money from his mother, nearly forcing her eviction from a nursing home, the Portland Tribune reported.

Raymond Nordmeyer, a 64-year-old former bodybuilder and Bally Total Fitness training director, was accused of stealing $100,000 from his mother, the newspaper reported.

He was charged with felony aggravated theft and criminal mistreatment and released on bail Friday.

Citing court documents, the Portland Tribune reported that Nordmeyer was a legal trustee for his 86-year-old mother and had power of attorney over her affairs while she lived in a Florida nursing home.

“He was to manage her finances and pay her rent. At some point, however, he stopped paying the rent, causing the nursing home to start eviction proceedings against his mother,” the paper reported.

The gym is near the corner of Northwest Everett Street and 21st Avenue.
