HILLSBORO, Ore. -- An early morning rear-end collision killed a man and closed the Tualatin Valley Highway in both directions Thursday, according to police.

Car erupted in flames

The road was closed in both directions between Imlay and Brookwood. Two lanes were reopened around 6:30 a.m. on one side of the highway, allowing traffic through in both directions, ODOT said.

ODOT issued an "all clear" and reopened all lanes just before 9 a.m.

Hillsboro police said the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. and involved two cars, both heading westbound.

Onesimo Ortiz-Giron, a 43-year-old Hillsboro man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His SUV burst into flames during the wreck, police said.

A man and woman in their 20s were in a second car that allegedly rear-ended Ortiz-Giron's vehicle.

Julio Roberto Urbina, 22, was traveling with a 23-year-old woman, Rocio Alexi Mazariegos-Aba, in a Dodge Stratus when they hit Ortiz-Giron from behind. Police would not comment on whether alcohol was a factor.

Ortiz-Giron's vehicle, a GMC Jimmy, burst into flames.

Roberto-Urbina suffered minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and arrested after release on manslaughter charges.

His passenger was uninjured and not charged, Hillsboro police said.
