Shooting at Somerset Park in Wash. Co. leads to Troutdale standoff
09:36 AM PDT on Thursday, March 20, 2008
What began as a game of basketball at Somerset West Park in Washington County on Wednesday afternoon turned into a shooting and a subsequent standoff, authorities said.
Three men had arrived together to play basketball at the park, but after an argument, suspect Joseph Tedrick, 21, shot 20-year-old Marvin Rains once in the leg, said Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Vance Stimler.
Rains was hospitalized with a non life-threatening injury as deputies rushed to Troutdale to arrest Tedrick.
For nearly three hours, a SWAT team surrounded the Cherry Ridge Apartments in Troutale, waiting for Tedrick to come out. He was holed up with his 4-year-old daughter.
Neighbors told KGW he lives there with his wife, child and and mother-in-law.
Tedrick was eventually taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of weapon.
