Man dies after beating outside N Portland tavern

Portland police say a man who was beaten unconscious outside a North Portland tavern has died at a local hospital and now his attacker faces murder charges.

Police said James Brault, 54, was beaten by Aaron Christian, 25, outside Slim’s Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, at 8635 N Lombard Street, just after 2 a.m., Sunday morning.
Brault was taken by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital Sunday morning and his condition deteriorated through the day, police said, until he passed away Monday morning.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
Christian was initially arrested and booked in the Justice Center Jail for assault. But now, the charge was elevated to one count of murder and he was scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday.
