Pedestrian hit on Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy. upgraded to serious condition

BEAVERTON -- A pedestrian who was struck by a car on SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway Monday morning has been upgraded from critical to serious condition, officials said Tuesday.

Maha Alayasa, 25, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday.
According to witnesses, the victim was walking southbound across the highway in the marked crosswalk when a westbound Pontiac hit her.
The accident occurred at SW 62nd and Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
The driver of the Pontiac was identified as 60-year-old Thomas Benjamin. Benjamin was charged with DUII (prescription drugs), reckless driving and assault.
He appeared in court Tuesday and pleaded innocent.
