Vancouver Police investigate deadly shooting at Westfield Mall
11:22 AM PDT on Saturday, September 30, 2006
A dispute that started over the CB radio airwaves turned deadly in Vancouver Saturday morning.
According to Vancouver Police spokesperson Kim Kapp, officers first responded a call of shots fired in the parking lot of the Westfield Mall around 1:30 a.m.
When police arrived they found 47 year-old Keneth Eichhorn in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.
Eichhorn was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center where he underwent surgery but later died of his wounds.
Police have already made an arrest in the case. Kapp said 44 year-old John W. Loveless called 911 after the incident to report that he was involved in the shooting. Detectives interviewed him and ended up arresting him on charges of murder in the second degree.
According to Kapp, the dispute all started with Eichhorn and Loveless arguing during a CB radio conversation.
Kapp said the two men agreed to meet in the parking lot at the mall and that both men were armed. Police have not released all the details on what exactly the dispute was over or how Eichhorn was shot though.
Eichhorn's sister-in-law told KGW that Ken Eichhorn was born and raised in the Oregon City/Milwaukie area. Eichhorn's sister-in-law said Ken had a 7 year-old daughter and had just celebrated his one year wedding anniversary on Friday.
Police said they didn't think Eichhorn and Loveless knew each other before the shooting. Police were collecting clues at the scene of the crime as well as inside Loveless' residence for more information.
