Longview police say woman made up story about stabbing
10:43 AM PDT on Friday, August 29, 2008
LONGVIEW, Wash. -- Police think the woman who told them she was stabbed by a man with bushy eyebrows and severe acne in Longview earlier this week made the whole thing up.
Investigators even created a composite sketch and detailed description of the suspect and circulated it to the media Thursday, before police believe cracks started to surface in the alleged victim's story.
Jessica Swanson had told police that she was attacked from behind by a man on Tuesday night near 32nd Avenue and Baltimore but managed to escape. She had cuts on her head, arm and chest that seemed to support her report.
But Longview detective Marc Langlois started asking lots of questions and said he learned that Swanson had recently gotten into a fight with another woman who she thought had damaged her car. "During the altercation Swanson suffered a laceration to her head and puncture wounds to her arm and chest," he said.
As the investigation continued, Swanson was arrested and booked into the Cowlitz County Jail for malicious prosecution and making a false statement to a public servant.
