Vancouver man struck by lightning recovering slowly

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Vancouver, Wash. man who was struck by lightning last week is showing signs of slow, but steady improvement.

Still, The Oregonian reports that Daniel Thomas, a certified arborist and tree assessor, remains at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center in Portland.
Thomas was working in Damascus on Sunday afternoon when a bolt of lightning hit him and Edward Wetterlin, a 61-year-old homeowner.

Thomas was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Wetterlin, taken in stable condition, was released Monday.
The National Weather Service estimates the odds of being struck by lightning in any given year at 1 in 400,000.
