Vancouver arrival of tall ships slightly delayed
09:06 AM PDT on Thursday, May 22, 2008
Elementary and home-schooled students from five Portland area communities will experience the life of an 18th-century sailor when the tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain visit Portland May 29 to June 5.
Young people from Portland, Troutdale, Canby, Buxton and Gresham will board the vessels for dockside programs or three-hour sailings from the ships’ berth at Tom McCall Park on the Portland waterfront. The students will raise a sail, sing sea shanties and hear maritime stories.
The ships will be in Portland to celebrate the Portland Rose Festival as well as offer educational programs.
Vancouver Arrival Delayed:
Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain are currently sailing for Vancouver, Wash. The ships were scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Vancouver Landing and offer walk-aboard tours from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Due to a schedule conflict, the boats will now arrive Thursday evening at Vancouver Landing and offer their first public tours on Friday, May 23 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All schedules are subject to change without notice.
