The bunk bed was charred by the flames.
The other two children in the room escaped as well and alerted their parents.
Vancouver Fire spokesman Kevin Murray said the child was sleeping on the mattress when fabric from a blanket caught fire inside the home located at 5219 NE 119th Street.
“Initial investigation indicates the bedding was too close to a baseboard heater,” Murray explained.
There were a total of eight people in the home when the fire broke out just after 4 a.m. and no one was seriously injured but one man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

“Luckily one of the children woke up and notified the other kids and parents, that is not always the case,” Murray said, explaining that the situation could have been tragic because the house did not have any working smoke detectors.
The home sustained significant smoke and fire damage.
