12:12 PM PDT on Friday, April 18, 2008
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A fifth grader accused of throwing a knife into another boy’s head appeared in court Friday.
The suspect was appointed an attorney and ordered to undergo counseling once a week. He was also ordered to stay under house arrest when he’s not in school.
The prosecuting attorney told the court that the suspect had bragged about the crime afterwards, but the boy denied it.
Background: Knife lodged in boy's head
His next court appearance was scheduled for May 2nd.
Victim Tyler Hemmert, 11, and a friend were playing in the Fruit Valley Park in Vancouver, Wash. on Sunday when the suspect allegedly threw a butter knife at them.
It struck Hemmert and lodged just under his scalp, authorities said. Doctors successfully removed the knife.
