Pair runs across I-5 near Centralia, one struck and killed
08:06 AM PDT on Tuesday, April 15, 2008
CENTRALIA, Wash. -- State troopers say two men tried to run across Interstate 5 north of Centralia, and one was fatally struck by a car.
Troopers say the pair made it across the southbound lanes. In the northbound lanes, though, a 1999 Toyota Camry swerved to avoid one of the men in one lane but hit the other in the next lane.
The man who was hit was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital and flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He died of massive head injuries Monday night.
Troopers say the 39-year-old driver escaped injury. Damage to his car was estimated at $1,500. No citation was issued.
