Tire hits car

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 12-year-old Yacolt boy was recovering Tuesday after a flying tire careened through the windshield of a car he was in while riding down the freeway Monday.

Marianne Redinger told police she had just gotten on Interstate 205 Monday morning when she saw a tire flying through the sky right at her car.

According to police the wheel flew off a Volkswagen Jetta heading the opposite direction. It smashed the Cadillac’s windshield and roof hitting passenger Ralden Redinger and covering him with broken glass.

"We were so close to it when we first saw it there was no way to avoit it," Marianne Redinger said.

Two other people stopped to help until medics arrived. Ralden was treated for a broken nose, concussion and cuts from broken glass.

"We really feel like he came out of it on top, it could have been a lot worse," Redinger said.

The Jetta driver was cited for the loose tire.
