88-year-old man fights off armed robber in Washington Co.

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- An 88-year-old man managed to fight off an armed man disguised in a ski mask who forced his way into his Washington County home Monday afternoon and tried to rob him, police said.

The suspect had a handgun and demanded money but the resident refused to give him what he wanted and a struggled ensued until the suspect eventually fled, police said.

The masked man also threatened the resident’s 55-year-old daughter at some point during the confrontation. But neither was injured.

It happened just after 2 p.m., in the 12800-block of NW Majestic Sequoia Way. Investigators said they think the suspect may have been going door-to-door in the neighborhood asking for donations for his school before he put on the ski mask.

Deputies used a K9 team to search for the suspect but could not find him.

He was described as a white man standing about six feet tall and weighing around 160 pounds with reddish-brown hair. He appeared to be about 20 years old and was wearing a black ski mask and gloves, a dark black or brown jacket, shorts, tennis shoes and a grey or black backpack, investigators said.

Detectives were urging anyone that might have information that could help the investigation to call detective Jensen at 503-846-2500.
