The new MAX trains will be used on the I-205/Portland Mall extension.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Metro Portland’s transit system grew a bit this week -- about 8.3 miles, to be exact.

The MAX Green line enjoyed its ceremonial unveiling Tuesday when it crossed into Clackamas County.

Passengers climbed aboard to make the inaugural trek from Portland Bus Mall.

The Green line travels from downtown Portland along a new segment of Interstate 205, terminating at Clackamas Town Center Station.

MAX Green line opens officially to travelers Sept. 12, TriMet said.
