Man killed by girlfriend thought she'd been dead for weeks05:34 PM PDT on Thursday, May 31, 2007A 30-year-old woman who killed her estranged boyfriend and later herself Wednesday had convinced family and friends, including the victim, that she committed suicide a couple weeks ago, police said a day after the murder-suicide in southeast Portland.
Police photo Jacqueline Kay Fielder Jacqueline Kay Fielder died at the hospital early Thursday morning.
She shot 36-year-old Michael Kellerman several times Wednesday before driving to Redmond, Ore., where police stopped her after a high-speed chase, according to Sgt. Brian Schmautz, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.
Fielder then shot herself in the head.
“During the continuing investigation, detectives learned that the suspect had concocted a story convincing everyone... that she had committed suicide... Based on information from witnesses, the victim had apparently been grieving the loss of the suspect,” Schmautz said.
Kellerman must have been shocked to see Fielder alive Wednesday morning, according to police.
Witnesses told officers they saw Fielder shoot Kellerman multiple times before running northbound from the area. Background: Suspect caught by police in Central Ore. after Portland shooting An autopsy determined Kellerman died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.
Fielder had prior contact with police for domestic violence-related issues, Schmautz said. According to police, Kellerman had a restraining order against Fielder.
